Online fashion group Boohoo is setting up its new distribution centre in Wellingborough to service its Nasty Gal, Karen Millen, Coast, Oasis and Warehouse brands.



The ecommerce retailer has taken Exeter Property Group’s 287,634 sq ft warehouse on the Park Farm Industrial Estate, which was previously occupied by House of Fraser.

Boohoo intends to finish work on an extended warehouse capacity in April, creating 1000 jobs in its first year of operation.

The House of Fraser distribution centre closed amidst much controversy in April 2019 with the loss of some 300 jobs and has since lain empty. It was let to House of Fraser at a rent of £4 per sq ft and was initially run on an £85 million contract with DHL until 2016 before the contract was given to XPO. Exeter gave XPO a year to land another contract and while it was unable to do so, the 3PL introduced Boohoo

No details of the new lease were available.

The property has a site density of 54%. It has 12m eaves, 22 dock levellers and is part racked for pallet spaces on both a wide aisle and narrow aisle basis, It has a 40kn/sqm floor loading and three storey offices totalling 7,011 sq ft.

Boohoo has been advertising a plethora of jobs on its website at its ‘new Distribution Centre in Wellingborough’ over the weekend.

In its recent results the company said: “The Group is close to finalising an extension of UK warehousing capacity (UK3) with a new site to open in April 2021 that will support the creation of up to 1,000 jobs in the first 12 months of operation. The addition of UK3 will free up capacity within our existing network as we develop these facilities to support future expansion plans.”

Good progress is being made on Boohoo’s state-of-the art manufacturing facility based in Leicester, which is expected to launch later this year.

The fast-fashion retailer expects revenue for the financial year to February 28 to jump 36-38%, ahead of the previous guidance of 28-32%.
